Why is play therapy the best solution to help kids work through their issues?
Play therapy is an appropriate and suitable model of treatment for kids struggling with behavior and emotional regulation issues. Kids are not cognitive, rational or verbal. They live out of their emotions and traditional talk therapy may not be the most effective form of treatment for them.
Play therapy allows kids to work through challenges through the use of toys and play. Play therapists assist kids in interpreting , changing and better understanding the situation resulting in more positive behaviors and better emotional regulation.
How does filial therapy support your child’s success?
Child-Parent Relationship Therapy (CPRT), is a type of filial therapy that is provided to parents in conjunction with their child’s engagement in play therapy. (CPRT) teaches parents how to engage in play therapy with their kids. It helps to strengthen the bond between parents and their child, reinforces skills learned in the play room and supports continued socio-emotional health.
CBT kids groups support more positive interactions with adults and peers and to better handle challenging situations. Kids will engage in activities to help them recognize negative thought patters and to identify coping skills to keep them calm. They will gain a better understanding of how negative thinking can result in negative outcomes and how to replace negative thoughts with more positive ones. Kids will engage in Project Joy groups to support social skills through play and to have FUN!
Why is collaboration with your child’s school important?
Many times kids present with the same behaviors in multiple settings. Regular collaboration with the your child’s school allows for open communication with the school and provides additional support to both your child and their support staff. This can result in academic improvement, more positive interactions with peers and staff and the building and maintaining of relationships.
